Gas Industry Regulations 2024

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Gas Industry Act 2019 .

1.   Short title

These regulations may be cited as the Gas Industry Regulations 2024 .

2.   Commencement

These regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette.

3.   Interpretation

In these regulations –
Act means the Gas Industry Act 2019 ;
biogas has the same meaning as in the Gas Safety Act 2019 ;
biomethane means a substance –
(a) that is in a gaseous state at standard temperature and pressure; and
(b) the principal constituent of which is methane; and
(c) that is produced from biogas;
synthetic methane means a substance –
(a) that is in a gaseous state at standard temperature and pressure; and
(b) the principal constituent of which is methane; and
(c) that is produced by the methanation of carbon dioxide.

4.   Substances declared to be gas

The following substances are declared, under paragraph (c) of the definition of gas in section 3(1) of the Act, to be gas for the purposes of the Act:
(a) biomethane;
(b) biogas;
(c) hydrogen;
(d) synthetic methane;
(e) a mixture, blend or combination, whether in equal parts or otherwise, comprised of any two or more substances that are a gas under the Act.
